Elijah Paul is here

Elijah Paul arrived at 3:49am on Friday, July 9. He was 8 lbs. 6 oz. and 20.5 inches long. It was a relatively quick delivery - arrived at the hospital at 10:30 - not sure what time she checked me probably between 11 and 12 and I was 3 cm - had the epidural between 1 and 2 - at 2:30 I was 8 cm - and was pushing around 3:30 for less than 20 minutes - not too bad. I did have my antibiotic, but was either 10 minutes too late or I delivered 10 minutes too early. Either way, I was supposed to have the antibiotic 4 hours before I delivered and it was only 3 hours and 50 minutes, so we were supposed to stay 48 hours instead of 24. However, for some reason they didn't take Eli's blood Friday morning as they were supposed to, so we had to stay an extra couple of hours because it was 48 hours from the time of blood they needed Eli to stay. Then his poor skin was a little yellow, so they made him go under the lights that day. Although we couldn't keep his glasses on, so he wasn't under there as long as they think! But, the pediatrician on call said she would have sent him home with the levels he had without light, but since we were there....

I think Makenna is adjusting. She has become better with being gentle. And wants to give the baby kisses. Unfortunately, she continues (not often but once or twice) referring to my belly as Eli. And Eli is referred to as baby - not Eli. Silly girl.

I'm not sure if it's because Eli was born in the middle of the night, but he tends to be more fussy and resistant to sleep during the night. But he's not even a week old yet - so we'll get there!

Little Eli is fussing, so I'm off to see what he needs. Hopefully more pictures will come soon!

No eviction date yet

I have made a little progress since last week, but nothing warrants an induction, so we are still waiting. Little Eli is different from Makenna - I suppose has been from the beginning. When contractions started with Makenna - I was in labor. With this little one - he likes to play games. They come and go - so I don't know if you want to call it false labor or getting moving slowly. Whatever the case, this is not a comfortable place to be. And to top it off, I am still working. So feeling menstrual cramps off and on all day is just no fun. Plus people keep coming by making comments about me still being there or asking me things that would add to my to do list. Umm, one - I would rather not be here; two - I could not be here in an hour, so please stop asking me questions! No, I would not just sit at my desk and play on the internet all day - there are still some things that I would like to finish before I leave and I want to answer my replacement's questions if she has any. Sorry - this vent is over.

We had a pretty un-eventful holiday weekend. On Saturday we spent a few minutes down on the square and had some yummy ice-cream. There is a local shop that has fresh strawberry ice-cream that has become my new favorite. Sunday we went to another local town as they had a small event with fireworks. We didn't realize the fireworks didn't start until 9:30 - we thought maybe 9, and it was 8:30 and Makenna didn't seem like she was going to make it. She had been playing on the playground learning new tricks she ought not learn (climbing up the slide) and seemed tired. Plus I had to go to the bathroom and didn't see anywhere to go. So we decided to come home. After Makenna's bath, we went outside because the neighbors were setting off fireworks. The first one she saw, she says, "inside." So, looks like a good decision on our part not making her watch an entire program! So we went inside and watched one of the programs on tv and she danced to the music. What a silly girl!

Hope everyone had a safe holiday. We'll keep you posted.
