Makenna and I went to Rhode Island last week with Grammy, Nanny and Aunt Alli. Aunt Alli left early to go on a cruise - we're jealous. We had a good time visiting family. Makenna was wonderful on the plane - she fussed a little on the flight up as we were ascending, but she nursed and took a nap. We didn't make it off the ground on the return flight before she was nursing/napping. She was such a good girl the whole week, but I will say it is not fun traveling with a baby through airports. Thankfully we didn't run into problems, but the amount of stuff that you have to take with you!
We visited with lots of family. Makenna loved playing with the kids. They would get on the floor and play with her. She had a ball. The weather there was nice until the last two days. They have had a rainy/cool summer this year. Thankfully it stayed that way much of our vacation since most do not have central air. Makenna and I "played" outside a couple of times. We sat in the grass and watched the leaves wave at us. We took a walk to the park one afternoon and went to the mall another. I had her in the Baby Bj.orn through the mall and she had a blast - she was waving her arms cooing the entire time. (Robert doesn't think it is so great that she liked the mall! Leave it to daddy to think that way!) It was a nice week with no deadlines and no agenda - one of the best kinds of vacation!
Just before we left, we went to the doctor for her check-up. She is now 27 inches (90th %tile)and 14 lbs. 15 oz. (50th %tile). I was also 27 inches at 6 months - however, I was much chunkier at 17 lbs., 4 oz. Crazy! We got the go ahead to move to solids - which we had kind of started anyway. She has now had bananas, green beans, applesauce, and winter squash. She now likes the bananas and is pretty good with the applesauce and winter squash. She could do without the green beans. I'll probably try sweet potato or carrots next. We'll hold off on green beans again for a while. She also moved up to oatmeal although she doesn't seem to mind either (rice or oatmeal). HOpefully soon I can find some time to make some of her food. I have been pretty picky with the foods I've given her - they only have the fruit/veggie plus water - no additional "stuff." I know I won't always be able to "protect" her, but I don't think making the food will be that difficult, so may as well try.
Tomorrow will be the first time Robert feeds her - since I have started her on breakfast. Next week we may go to lunch as well. She does pretty good, but sometimes sticks her hands in her mouth - he is not going to like that part!
Finally, the teeth part. We were waiting for the dr. to come in during her check-up and I felt in Makenna's mouth. Her left bottom front tooth was about to pop through. Everyday I can feel it more and then while in Rhode Island I felt the right one. They have both broken the skin, so that is good. They don't seem to bother her too much - every now and again I think she is uncomfortable, but she has done really well. They haven't bothered either of us during nursing - so another plus! I haven't caught them on camera yet, but we'll keep trying.
It is late and I need to get to bed - I'll get pictures up next time. Back to the grind in the am. :(
